While the main group of hikers charged up the steep trail to the look-out, four of us stayed on Bald Hill Road and just walked south on it for an hour in order to get a reduced amount of exercise. It was an unusually lovely morning and the road was a gorgeous place to stroll along

This is one of just three hikes where we can run into horses — always a high point, IMO

This was my first time back into the woods since I fell down on a Saturday hike on May 12. My recovery was complicated by the fact that I have an underlying genetic brain disorder that causes balance problems and dizziness. I’ve had a bumpy recovery — at the low point I couldn’t walk well enough to go out of the house, and I had to get around inside using a borrowed rolling walker. It was really great to be back out with the hikers!

We had a lot of fun at Hopshire — three hikers were marking their birthdays. Leigh Ann, center in pale hat, had the best birthday story — when she was 25 she was a very active cave explorer and on her 25th birthday she and some fellow cavers were lost in a large cave complex in Indiana — took several days for them to be rescued.

While the hikers were shaping up on Woodard Road, a neighbor couple who live just up the road came by with their two dogs. One was a small dog who is paralyzed in the hind legs and who travels in a baby stroller — the couple said they’re caring for the dog until they can find someone to adopt it permanently — very sweet

I need to amend my comments about the Saturday Mexican party — I said only a few of the 45+ hikers went swimming — I spoke too soon — after Tiger and I went home, quite a number of people went in to the pond …. so the swimming was officially a success as well as the food
