Finger Lakes Trail from Connecticut Hill RD
Town of Newfield
Meet: On Connecticut Hill Rd between Boylan and Tower Roads, and above the three-way intersection with Boylan and Lloyd Starks Rd where we often meet for other area hikes. We’ll be meeting on Connecticut Hill Rd where the FLT crosses, so look for the standard yellow FLT trail sign along the sides of the road.
Approximate location on Google map:
Park along the wide Southerly shoulder of Connecticut Hill Rd at the FLT crossing.
Hike Route Description:
From the parking area, walk on the Finger Lakes Trail in a generally Southwesterly direction This is an ‘out and back” hike.
The initial part of the trail will feature a gradual downhill section leading to small water-crossings, as well as some areas with root and mud hazards that may require careful navigation (wet roots, rocks, etc ).
A short climb up a wooded hillside away from the stream crossings will soon have you walking through small meadows and stands of mature CCC-era pines that make for a pleasing hike environment. Reaching Boylan Rd, the FLT jogs Southwesterly for a short distance on Boylan RD before you’re once again travelling through forests and meadows on what appears in places to have been former logging roads.
